Responsibilities
The Forest Heights Police Department is the primary investigating agency for crimes that occur within the corporate limits. This will include breaking and entering, theft, citizen robberies, fraud and a multitude of street crimes.
Should additional resources be needed the FHPD may request assistance from the Prince George's County Police Detective's Bureau or Criminal Investigative Division. Other investigations may require assistance from the Maryland State Police's crime laboratory or traffic enforcement.
Investigators
FHPD investigators also work with federal agencies, such as the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the U.S. Department of Transportation and serve on a number of joint task forces. Due to its proximity near the border of Washington, DC, the FHPD works closely with units from the Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia (MPDC) on joint interdiction operations and communication sharing.
Ongoing Investigations
Just as with any crime, ongoing criminal investigations require close communication with the community and involvement from concerned citizens. What one may view as a small and insignificant piece of information could very well be the missing piece of a puzzle.
